There are thousands out there, some are good, others aren't worth your time, but they do seem to have an impact on your google maps local listings.

I signed up for loads of them at the end of 2008 and it got me listed on the local pages for quite a few terms, sadly i've dropped down the list on a few because I wasn't keeping up with updating the content, now i'm trying again i've forgotten half of them that I signed up for! So I thought it might be time to keep a list. If you add a directory to the list i'll try to keep a list in the this post... oh hang i can't as it will only let me edit for 20 mins, maybe the mods can help me out?

Ok so which ones are you listed with and do you think they effect your rankings?

there are some that get you listed to a few directories as they use the same database, can't remember who runs www.upmystreet.com but that's one of them

P.S When you sign up with these people expect to get called by them to upgrade from your free listing, don't DO IT! I haven't found one that is worth the money yet. They are allowed to call you as you have supplied your details to them so it's not cold calling, but just tell them you've already spent your advertising budget for the year

i went on one site last night

yeah I had two months of that then they died off and the customers starting ringing but out of it I had over 35K of work last year (inc. materials). You should be able to stop the cold callers by registering with TPS but the directories you sign up for can ring you because you supplied them your number

i just got a call cr inviting me to tender for some redecoration at a nearby country hotel

in my excitement i forgot to ask where they got my details

ive got a meeting next week with the manager and and the main contractor to go through the job

i dont know who im up against or whats involved

no doubt its ra and ms time
