Is my wall strong enough?

Hi, I am doing a shower room and in the shower area I am going to use marble floor tiles (30.5 x 30.5).
The walls are brick but the plaster is the old lime plaster.
I have checked the plaster, and it seems solid enough, but I know that it is comparatively easy to get off the brickwork compared to modern plaster.
I am now having doubts, with visions of the whole lot peeling off the brickwork once tiled.
The wall area is 2.7 m high and 1.5 m wide.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
Thanks, Nick.

Hi Toppy, to be honest I don't if there's any difference in strength between lime and gypsum plaster. Tiles would be too heavy for normal platered walls so the advice usually would be take it off and fit backerboard. Plenty of info if you use the search facility on backer board and tile weight. Welcome to the forum good luck

Yes, I think backerboard is the way to go.
I presume it is ok to screw it to the wall over the existing plaster.

Nick.

that should be fine just make sure you are screwing into the brickwork behind the plaster and not the plaster!
