I've only ever done a few DIY jobs, but after I injured my arm had to get a "pro" in to do a kitchen wall and floor. One was recommended, and after 3 days of him moaning about everyone else's work, demanded £600 for the tiling and another £120 for latex on the floor (30 mins work) which he said wasn't even. This guy claimed to have been tiling for the best part of 40 years.
I questioned his worked on a couple of occasions: for example, why he didn't mitre the joints of the chrome trim. He said he's "never done that in my life" and I had to get him to porperly trim one piece as it was very rough - the result was massive scratching down a finished edge as he didn't file away from that side.
I've just had a kid, and thought my rage at his work was down to lack of sleep. Now everyone else that's seen his work thinks it's not that good either.
He also greatly over-estimated the tiles required - he wanted 4M for the wall when 2.5M were used (and a .2M thrown away which could have been used for edges) and again 14M when 11M was used on the floor - and surprise surpirse his "great mate" at the tile shop "who will do a great deal" won't take back the £200 of extra tiles.
Here's links to his work. I particularly like the way he couldn't be bothered to cut 3 mm off a tile so the kitchen unit foot would remain in place, instead lifted the foot up to shove the tile under it.
Now - as you are all professionals, should I accept his job good workmanship, or not?
If you feel it is bad, should I expect him to refund all or part of his work?
