Is this too hard to make stud wall deeper (for niche)? Page: 1

Hi all,

We wanted to put a shower niche on this side of the shower wall (left in the photo) but the studs are only 2x3s (depth of stud actually measures near 70mm).

I see most niches are around 80mm-90mm. So I was wondering if there's an easy to make the partition deeper?

I thought the options would be:
A) shim everything stud joist and noggin/new noggins

B) put a new layer of ply across the whole wall (would need to be 12mm I guess)

Hi . Just build out the studs to make it deeper.

Hi . Just build out the studs to make it deeper.

Do you mean sister some studs which are deeper to the existing stud frame? (As in screwing them to the sides)

Or do you mean screw on thin strips of wood to the face of all the timber frame?
