Job update!

Things are going OK in the floor tiling of my utility. Most of the centre tiles have been done, will do the cuts tomorrow. This is my first floor job and my only fear is that I may have been a bit light on the addy, the floor is not 100% level and a fear I may have gaps under a couple of tiles. I went heavier on the addy after the first line, learning as I go here!

If a tile does crack down the line what is the technique for replacing it?

By the way, many thanks for the tips on the other threads, I know most of your are professionals and must wince when a DIY'er like myself turns up with stupid questions!

Try taping the tile you will hear the difference, if no addy then you will hear a hollow sound.

If they do crack a couple of ways to replace drill a line of holes through then remove tile and adhesive. Or if your comfortable smash it out with a hammer!

There is no such thing as a stupid question! Just misinformed answers!

Cheers Andy, hollow sounds in parts of 2 tiles, won't make that mistake with the rest! It's porcelain 30 x 60 so hopefully the tile is tough enough to make up for the small hollow.

either replace them now before you grout.to save the mess years down the road, as you might damage other tiles when removing them.or keep plenty of spares!!

If you think you can, when you come to grout make sure your grout is a little runny and force plenty in the joints around that area and it may/should seap under the tile to fill the void(s). If you start to grout there and then carry on, you'll find as you do the rest you'll need to keep going over that bit, when you spot it's taken well and the grout isn't sinking you know you've filled the void.

If your adhesive isn't neat around the edges of those tiles though you may not get to the void(s) though. I'd say it'd be much easier now in that case to pull the tiles up before you need to go through the delicate procedure of replacing a tile that's been fixed for a bit longer, and has the grout in it.

The adhesive might not have built up it's full strength quite yet and you may find it's easier to get up than you think. (not knowing the job/previous posts on this, I might be wrong with that statement - adhesive dependent).
