Just a quick question.....

Is it ok to use two part flex straight on to solid floor boards overboarded with 6mm ply? Tiles will be 25cm by 35cm glazed porcelin.

Then use a GT1 admix in Bal superflex floor grout?

Wont go below 12mm WBP ply myself if I am using ply on a floor, a lot of guys out there willing to do it now a days. It really depends on floor movment you could use 6mm Hardibacker board for floors and would get away with single part flex adhesive and normal flexi floor grout. I have used the boards for walls and floors and laid a few hundred m2 with no problems they are good and easy to transport compared to Ply.

I am talk about the two part flexi that is designed to go straight on to floorboards, I have never used it, I normally use 12mm ply with a single part but that isn't really an option for this..... Cheers for the reply though

It's a kitchen floor around 7.7 metre square. Not sure how thick the wood is, there seems to be no movement.

Just another quick question about ply-ing the floorboards instead of starting a new thread

How to you cut your ply wood, do you use a saw or a jig saw.

Shall i go for cheap one or a good one.

I use a bit of both but mainly jigsaw, mine is just a cheap one but does the job for now

Oh right get you, yes they are standard floorboards.

Adhesive manufacturers will advise 18, 22, 28mm ply for their flex adhesive depending on the manufacturer. If you have a standard floor board then you have around 22mm, if you ply this then you have 28mm so are in same place.

Personally.

make sure all boards are fixed sound and you domt get any movement then fix your ply to the floor. I use a tacker gun with a 16mm staple in it tacked every 6ish inches.

There is a trick to this, as you move over the floor tacking bounce your hammer over it. Hold your hammer loosley and tap it over the floor. If it bounces you need another tack there if it just thuds its cool. What it does is makes sure you dont have any voids under your ply. Try it you soon get the hang of it,


Prime your ply and off you go
