Kitchen floor job completed - some questions

Just finished a kitchen floor with a patio door that dictated I couldn't overlay with ply. Floor was chipboard so I opted to use 6mm nomoreply (first time I've used it). Was very impressed with it to be honest.

Adhesive I chose was Mapei Keraquick Rapidset which is polymer modified but mixed with their Latex+ liquid. I know you wouldn't normally add admix to a polymer modded addy but Mapei say otherwise for this brand. Wondered if anyone else has used this as I was impressed with it myself.

Main question is that when I was all done and plumbing in the dish washer and washer I had to totally remove the adjustable feet of the appliances and really force/wedge the appliances back under the worktop. Now this is with 6mm NMP, was wondering what you guys do when overplying with 18mm wbp, do you not find the appliances a problem? How do you get round it?

Sometimes as a last resort, i have tiled upto the appliances when not possible to tile under then for height reasons, ensuring that tiles are left behind. Should the appliances need to be removed the tiles have to be broken and relaid.

Its always a last resort though where there's no possible way of tiling under them, and the customer is certain that they undestand and are happy with the implications.

Typical of the fitters when they do the kitchens for not asking if the floor is going to be tiled so they can set the height of the work surfaces and set the height on the base units to accommodate the tiles. No preperation and planning!

My bro is a kitchen fitter and he say's that if the units are fitted to the correct height which is standard for propper K/fitters then you always have plenty room.....It should be around 35 inches to underside of worktop without tiles... And an apppliance is about 33 inches....

The probs most occur when tiling with stone tiles...

I suspect this kitchen was DIYed and fitted for the existing appliances or just not fitted correctly as you say.

I've Used Mapei Keraquick with the latex a few times, excellent stuff, highly flexible. Have'nt used NMP yet though, I normally go for the Ditra-matting.
I work alongside a kitchen company and they are excellent, if the floor needs to be plyed out, then they would normally do this first, then lay the kitchen onto the plywood s no issues with hieght of appliances.:santa_cheesy:

i do the same if a loast resort and customer is ok with it i just go flush up to the appliances its not ideal though,,i use mapei r/set white for a lot of jobs but dont always mix with the latex ,,i have used the latex a few times but not sure its necessary is it?

I usually try to tile the kitchen floor BEFORE the kitchen is fitted. Some of my customers like me to tile the whole floor so they can play about with the kitchen in the future without having to worry about the floor.

The let properties we have that have tiled kitchen floors are done this way so I have the option of leaving the floor alone if I want to change the units in the future. Kitchen units have a limited life, whereas the floor should be down for much longer if it's laid well.

Tiling a kitchen floor today I was trying to decide whether to tile right up to this boiler or just to the doorway, there was only about a 2" difference.... After thinking about it for a bit I left it to the doorway, thought maybe if they want to rip the boiler out later at least they wont have to damage the tiles! All very nice, very expensive slate btw!
