kitchen splash back

Hi all, just wondering when you are doing a kitchen splash back do you take off the moulding that are round the bottom of the cabinets and tile up under it then cut moulding and re-fix or do you tile round as neatly as you can? Cheers Ian

I've done it both ways, both can have their difficulties!

i always take em off,
but be carefull when you lay them down to cut to size (the trim that is) as they scuff easy

You have to be careful when trimming them as the joints can break and once broke they don't glue as neatly as first time...

It also depends upon the profile of the pelmet rail some are very easy to cut around and some you have to remove to get a neat finish...

Some guys on here use a fein machine but i personally use a tenon saw...fine teeth leave a neat cut edge....taking great care not to break the joint...

some mitre fix ( what kitchen fitters use ) is handy to carry to repair any joints...trim the old glue of with a craft type knife and then re-glue....
but if you are careful the joints are usually pretty strong...

take them off if i can but if not i cut them back

use my fein, cut them in place like doorstops and architraves. Much quicker

I always removed them and cut them as Dave said with tenon saw or large hacksaw with sharp blade. The hole in the bottom of the cabinet where the last screw goes in, is a good point to measure to face of the tile.....Gaz
