Its a bit like Billingham & Thornaby , Thornaby has had a makeover , Billingham Town Centre desperately needs sorting out :yikes:

The thing is with our town centre is they sold it off to a london based company called Freshwater and they never did the up keep that well and also doubled if not tripled the ground rates...And this drove some companies to shut shop..

So as they shut , the charity shops move in.. free rates etc etc.. so all the good shops that i grew up with were no more..

The new town centre looks great from the plans done, but lets see who will take up the shops/units etc..

Hopefully it'll help growth there as apparently the new cut backs will affect the north the most (I thought the south always had more money to be honest - so nothing changes there?).

They have been threatening the same with Stevenage also a post war new town ,we had the plans for about 5 years now and still nothing has happened ,last news was that with the government cutbacks and a risk averse banking sector it may never even happen
