what is anyones opinion on fixing large format porcelain 600 by 600 onto painted walls that have been primed ,will they stay up

Wouldn't keying the walls with a stanley knife help - I mean really keying deep and plenty of cross cuts into the plaster. Also back butter the tiles too. Any thoughts?

If its plasterboard with a plaster skim,it wont take the weight of the tiles.

It would help but still unacceptable IMO. You might as well spend a bit extra time and remove the paint. And as already stated skimmed walls won't take the weight so you'd need to replace or overboard anyway
