Afternoon all and a Very Happy Xmas!

I'ts been a while since my last posts but I have been lurking off and on. I did myself a mischief a few months ago so have been out of action for a while doing a bit of temping etc in my previous job (motor trade). Things are getting better so I will be looking at getting back on the horse over the New Year. Now as it happens, I'm at a large showroom in West London (approx 1000sq/m) that has a fully tiled floor fitted 7 or 8 years ago and over time with wear and tear/ maybe not perfect adhesive coverage/impact damage etc. a number of the tiles have cracked and started to lift. Mentioning my change of career, I have been asked to see what I could come up with as a repair solution. The chap who looks after site repairs has had a go at refixing a few of them but has only really only done a temporary job. The tiles are 30cmx30cm Marazzi contract tiles, ceramic with a matt white finish, not particularly tough for the application but I guess they are made to a price. Technically-and I have lifted a couple of them to see what is happening undernieth-it seems a straightforward job to lift the damaged ones, remove old addy, cut back the concrete 2-3mm to give adequate addy bed (if required) refix and job done! However, there are about 350 (40sq/m) of the buggers that need doing, spread acrooss the showroom in patches of 2 to 6 tiles at a time. So, a bit of a pain and messy (I kind of like these jobs:smilewinkgrin:) but I am struggling a bit with pricing. By the looks of things, without some carefull planning this could get totally away from me and I don't want this for a number of reasons, the main one being that the dealership in question is a national manufacturer owned group with 25 showrooms all tiled at the same time and all suffering similar problems-so potentially having 2010 covered!

Because of trading hours, the work would be limited to night time and it would only be possible to get each patch done one by one, so a very stop start job. I'm thinking that this is looking like a good 2 or 3 weeks work for me and a couple of others. Im also contemplating BAL motobond and the tile manufacturer is sure that they can track these tiles down( they are still in use I believe) so have that covered. Now I'm assuming that I would be having to pay around £200 or so a night for each additional tiler (but maybe not 3 of us required every night) around £2500 for materials including tiles (based on my rough calculations) and of course supply hot food/refreshments etc (pretty desserted at the showroom at night) and also turn a nice profit for the 'pigginess' of the job. Taking this into account and the nature of the job etc I'm just not seeing it coming in under £12-15k. I dont want to take the p as I do have a bit of a shoe in (and the other floors that need doing) but I don't want to leave myself feeling hard done by and regret ever starting. It is not an option to replace the whole floor BTW. I have also had a couple of chats with commercial flooring companies well outside my area and I am getting initial indications of up to £20k ! Have any of you good peeps had this sort of experience before and any suggestions welcomed.

Best Chrissy wishes

Can you deffo get the tiles? Eight years is a long time to source a similar tile. I have done repair work for the motor trade and to be honest I have to done it in the daytime. Usually they cordon off half/third of the showroom and you get cracking. Ford/bmw/mitsubishi/vauxhall tiles come from taylor tiles, and I would be very surprised if I could source one for a showroom built 8 years ago, but if you have that covered then that's fine although I have only fitted porcelain in about 40 dealerships across the whole range of manufactures. You are usually held to the supplier's prices and they are not cheap but you should be able to go over that with the dealer principal as its his money. If you are paying them £200 per night tell them to get their own nosh!
Health and safety dictates that you have to have at least two of you if its night work.
Cscs cards may be applicable (not sure) £5 mill of Public Liability Insurance is a must because they will check. Usually you have to erect some temporary walls with timber and plastic to catch all the dust and you have to have extraction on your grinders if you are cutting grout etc. Dealerships have new cars inside and used outside. They dont like dust on their £15,000 upwards motors.
