Laying sq edge floor tiles... I'm gunner bite the bullet

Ok I've Been doing bathrooms mostly, and kitchens but have always been scared of doing sq edge tiles.I'm going to do a kitchen fit next week and the guy wants 400x400 ceramic sq edge tiles laid in kitchen hallway right through to front door, I'm lifting tiles in kitchen, and vinyl tiles in hallway, spread slc, I'm going to use an 8mm float. So based on the floor being 100% level will these tiles just lay with nomlippage, silly question I know, do you lay first tile level with small spirit level then use a straight edge for every one you lay. I know it sounds a dumb question but just looking to see how you approach it.

8mm trowel not deep enough , use 10 mm round notch back skim tiles with flat edge of tile that way you will get 100% coverage of tile and a solid bed

lay your 1st tile level i all ways butt the edges of tiles together to check there is no lip then pull apart then space using 3 mm spacers

you might be better of with a slow set addy if your not very quick

Sweet, i have always buttered the back when laying floor tiles, something else ive learnt here, thanks for the advice, I'll use fast set, but wont mix as much in one go.

I disagree, if the floor is perfectly flat, 8mm is fine. Its the absolute smallest I would go though, and only if the substrate is perfect.

How are you going to ensure the floor is perfectly flat? Unsure what your method is so I would be cautious and go with 10mm trowel and backskim tile. Here another tip for ya, set one tile to start with , make level, allow to set then carry on with the rest! Good luck dotcomrrade!

Another tip if you have a large area to cover and its worked good for me... screw a battern down and do half the room going off the battern.. that way your more guarenteed that your grout lines will be perfect

As long as you dont have UFH or its a wetroom ! :lol:
