laying wall tiles or floor tiles first

Please would someone inform me whether to lay the wall tiles first or the floor tiles.
I live in Thailand, here they always do the walls first!!
and 90% of the time do things backwards

would be interested to know which is the right way

A lot of guys on here will tile walls first, and the reason being, is that you won't be walking all over your new floor making a mess to get the wall tiles up.

Sometimes it's down to personal preference.

many thanks, but I guess the standard in England is a whole lot better that LOS (Thailand) so maybe it does not matter
but here they cut ragged edge tiles!!

if you're not happy with the edges after they've been cut hasher, can you speak to your tiler and explain this? can you tell him what kind of finished edge you're looking for?

I'm sure there are lots of photographic examples on this forum and across the internet where you can show your tiler the difference between finishes.

also, what kind of cutting device is your tiler using?

There is an expression we use here in LOS (Land Of Smiles) - Thailand "TIT"

it is a retort meaning "This is Thailand"

which infers suffer it !!!! ( "Mai Pen Rai" is often said here "it doesn't matter")

Walls first, then floors for the same reasons as girlracerred stated earlier. If using same tile or same size tile on both wall and floor and you want all the joints to line up across the floor and up the walls then would definatly tile the floor first.

Walls first as already said, leave the bottom row out, then do floor, then put your cuts in from the walls down to the floor to get a nice neat finish. Bead of silicone, job done.

I do both...... it depends on the layout and tile which decides what i do first.

I nearly always tile my floors in first then do the walls ,several reasons for this but mainly personal choice imo joints line through more acurately ,allows the plumbers and other trades an accurate finished floor height which is helpful when setting out borders etc if there is furniture and fittings in the room, biggest draw back is working on your finished floor but this is easliy sorted with a sheet of cordex or a dust sheet
