Leaking showers

Hello folks.
Tomorrow morning i have to leave a job and run to meet a plumber 12 miles away at a house where the two showers are leaking:mad2:
This house is two years old,i did NOT tile it nor do i tile for the housebuilder.
The shower walls are plywood,tiles cracked and off in places.No tanking done either,light bed of addy,60% coverage.
I had a quick look 2 nights ago.
The other shower needs bottoms half of tiles off to see why their loose.
The customer wants me and the plumber to sort it,any suggestions on tanking etc or should i rip ply off etc?
I will price it tomorrow and am very busy so don't need this type of work.

the ply is prob the reason there a\re issues there imo joe,i refuse to tile onto ply on walls full stop now,maybe best tanking it for peace of mind for the customer especially after a strip out so quick

I'm quite a fan of the "stick it up your jacksie" line with these sorta jobs at the moment..don't know if it's age or temper thing, but I am getting cantankerous about fixing other peoples shoddy work.. it doesn't seem to hurt to price accordingly for remedials on this sorta thing..so I say charge your worth!..good luck!

Joe,
You know the only way to do it right is rip it all out and replace with cement boards and tank. Price it all up and some. They have seen the hassle of guys making a pigs ear of it.
Im afraid NI is still in the dark ages with plasterboard and ply showers. Alot of warped and wet walls about!

You hav'nt done any work for them so why should you worry.

Iye might be worth mentioning to them that they might be able to put it through their household insurance.......mind you last time i did that the householders insurance did indeed cover it but insisted on specific tradesmen. I had the last laugh as they broke a very expensive shower surround trying to remove it!!

Where do you get your cement boards, Davy?

Only place I can find any is B&Q. Not sure what the going rate should be but £14 a sheet sounds expensive. Hard enough getting people to pay the extra for tanking without bumping another £50 onto a job for boards.

I met there with a plumber on saturday morning,we talked through the mess and decided to let her work her insurance on both showers.
She had got my number from a big estate agent from the area who got my number from a well respected builder
I'v basically walked from the job now,too much on anyway without the hassle of that.
Hopefully her insurance will supply the labour too:smilewinkgrin:
