leaking wetroom

I would be really grateful for some helpful advice - I have a wetroom tiled with porcelain tiles that has leaked. My bulider has talked about covering the floor with good quality lino as the best option or alternatively to re-tile with a polythene or visqueen sheet as a waterproof membrane. Not sure what to go for.... any thoughts? I want a solution that will give me piece of mind against further leaks.

where is the leak coming from, you dont want to lay lino and trap the moisture in the floor

No he wasn't the one to put the bathroom in...

sorry - should have been clearer. When the shower is used, if the water escapes beyond the open cubicle, it collects in other areas of the wetroom and leaks to the room below

sorry, just to be clear, was the wetroom installation something which you appointed another tradesman to do? or is the wetroom something you've inherited from buying a property for example?

just moved in to the house. The wetroom is an en-suite in a loft conversion undertaken by the previous owners 2 years ago

do you have any details of the tradesmen who did this work for the previous owners? for the wetroom to fail within 2 years, it's my opinion that the whole installation needs to be reviewed. Ideally, the tradesmen that installed it to start with should have given some kind of guarantee over the work.

unless you know what materials were used and how the whole thing was put together to start with, you're going to have problems repairing the wetroom.

I definitely wouldn't go with the builders idea either, tbh it sounds like the floor will have to come up and be redone with a proper wetroom membrane, some pics would help.

Even if you did know who installed it, the guarantee will be with the previous owners and not any ones after that.

If you have leaks outside of the showering area then t hat part of the floor must not be tanked.. and polythene or vinyl will not help..

It needs to be lifted and re-done and in this case i think you need to contact your house insurance.
