Evening all...and Hello again - I have been hiding (or rather too blooming busy to log on much)

I have been flat out all year, which is great - BUT - it has caused me problems.

The background is I am a tiler of almost three years experience, with great feedback from past and present customers and building a good reputation locally. Thought my speed was good without affecting quality of finish etc

Anyway, back to the self harm bit! I part completed a job for a customer just before Christmas and rushed it - cos I wanted to finish and get paid Christmas eve. He paid up and said it was great, then two months later called me back as he wasnt happy with the finish. I went round and could see that I hadnt given the job my usual care and attention - said I would fix it for him and would await his call back (he needed to get something else fixed first). To this date I still havent heard back from him.

Next was a job for a developer where I was fitting the work in between other jobs as he didnt want to wait until my diary was clear - all was great until I rushed again and mucked up the last few tiles and Silicon work in the final room. This was rectified, but at a cost of two more visits, non payment of his bill for well over a month and the loss of tiling the next three flats he is renovating at the mo. (Funnily enough it was Good Friday I first "finished" - maybe I shouldnt work leading up to religious breaks??)

So in other words to those thinking they are up to speed with things and good enough - dont rush it or squeeze too much in to your diary 'cos it may well cost you time and money to put it right and will damage your reputation in the mean time.

Lesson learned the hard way - and my diary is back to having a bit of flexibility between jobs!!

Your a braver man than me Chris!

What - for being honest or a Spurs fan???

In truth, you have got to be honest with yourself - I dont mind airing this all on here, but wouldnt want to do it in the local tile shops!! I know that the comments from you guys will be fair, just wanted to warn others who may be in a similar position to myself - you are never to old to learn - even if it is something you should already know!

as the old saying goes 'speed will come'..we've all been there fella..and there's not a man (or woman !) amongst us that hasn't dropped the odd bollock!..BUT you can obviously see the mistakes and take them on board ..so you are head and shoulders ahead of the average chancers out there..hang in there mate and best of luck!

Very honest mate,
When i first started on my own a pal of mine who has his own successful business said to me ' you WILL make a mistake at some time but as long as you hold your hands up, admit its your fault, sort it, and LEARN from it, you'll be ok '
Sounds like you've done just that mate. You sorted the problems and learnt from it.
