I'm planning to lay 60cmx60cm porcelain tiles onto stud and plasterboard walls. Some areas are perfect but in others the wall is way out with a trough of up to 10mm from plumb.

What is the recommended technique - I was thinking of running a 96" darby vertically along the wall and then running it horizontally. Will this do it or is there a better way?

Also, what product should I use - is there a recommended filler or should I just use the tile adhesive to build up the low spots?

Thanks.

Skim it up in layers with rapid set adhesive. For your final skim, I usually use a plasterers feather to get it flat. They are big Porc tiles for a wall, have you checked the weight of them and I assume the plasterboard is not skimmed or painted?

You will need to get a pretty flat surface also and use at least a 10mm notch trowel. Thick Bed/ Solid Bed trowel may be even better.

Thanks, The plasterboard is uncoated so should take 32kg per msq. The tiles are 18kg per sqm.

Yes one coat is ok for that but bear in mind it is still plaster and would effectively reduce you weight capability of the substrate. Rapid set is a bit stronger in this respect and you should be able to layer up quite quickly. One coat can take a bit of time to dry in my experience. it depends really how much of the plasterboard you need to be filling out.
