Hi, im doing a kitchen splashback nice and easy however when existing tiles were too off all the plaster came off with it too.The customer didnt want to wait for plaster to be done and dry so i dot and dabbed plasterboard onto the brick which is now nice flat and solid ready to tile.On the left hand side of the window a small wall about 1m2 i have taken back to the brick and plasterboarded as high as a splahback would be.However the plaster board lips out about 2mm where it meets the existing plaster and wallpaper at the top.(hope your still with me)when i come to tile the tiles and board will leave a lip at the top where it meets the plaster.Is there anything i can use as i kind of trim to cover this or will it just look a botch job.Thanks guys.:mad2:

hi davy sorry but what thickness of plasterboard did you use?

Hi davey-j.

Not easy without seeing the job but couldn't you use an oversize trim, if the tiles are 6mm go for a 9mm trim, that should take up the excess by sitting flat on the wall and front of the tile face.

could you not take the tiles a course higher and pack the last course out an extra 2mm then use the 9mm trim then there shouldn't really be a gap at the back of the trim!

thanks a lot guys i managed to use the trim wisely and that seems to have done the trick.Can i ask how long it would take you guys to tile a 4m2 kitchen splashback? Its a simple one just using creamic tiles with a border.Window, 2 plug sockets, around the window , around the cooker and two walls just wanted an idea coz i spent 5 hours alone putting on the first row(23 tiles) and the border,i did do the cuts under the window sill so its not just full tiles that's took that long..Im worried that i am the snail of the tiling world:lol:.The tiles are about 200x300 and am just doing two rows with a border in the middle and obviously 3 rows where the cooker hood is.Thanks a lot guys for the help.

hi davy, just finished a 5m2 kitchen splash in black glass mosiacs 30 x 30 sheets 8 sockets, upto and around cooker hood, had to build up window sill with plasterboard to accomadate full tile. started yesterday finished at 3 this afternoon. BUT have also taken 3 days on a smaller kitchen splash with bigger tiles and less sockets as the walls were very uneven on this one. basically no 2 jobs are the same and they take as long as they take(within reason) as long as your finish is good most customers are happy.

Thanks a lot m8 i am a beginner too and i suppose in time i will get much quicker.Just feel at times what am i doing wrong to be slow .The finish on my jobs i am pleased with but would love to be much quicker. I def underquoted this job as i priced it b4 the tiles were taken off and had to board two walls and the window sill.So that has set me back a day.I said that i wouldnt charge for boarding out but they had to pay materials.I just forgot to say ill take the tiles off but may be more money labour if the plaster comes off too.Im a teacher and do this in my spare time so am still learning.Ill put some pictures on soon on a bathroom i did and hope to get some feed back.

As a beginner you will always work for less than a fully seasoned tiller with years of experience, it's just a pain barrier that everyone has to go through.
Just make sure you take pride in your work, that in its self will give you a quality finish and thats all you and your customer can ask for, the speed thing will take care of its self and in a years time your wonder why it used to take you so long.
