If any of you can remember I made a few posts a year or so ago about tiling of the kitchen extension, just thought I would give you a little update as its nice to see the end product when you give people advice. (Annoying when people don't do it on the plumbing forums)

As you can see I had to renew all the wall plates/joists. The wall plates were rotten which had taken out the bottom of a few joists, but I mainly changed them all so strengthen/level out!

Just waiting for some quote on granite worktops so the kitchen can be completed. Just installing oak skirting at the moment as I have a week off but I have managed to hurt my back some how! Bloody typical.

Thanks for all the help/advice. :icon4:

Mr Tiler

thumbs up for this job mate end result is beautiful!!!!... I will ask a couple of questions tho if its ok lol... in 2 of the pics I am guessing it was the before shots of the room and floor.... they don't look absolutely terrible to my eye so what was the need for the whole floor being ripped up and joists replaced etc? was it too much movement or just covering your own back and being 100% sure it was tileable? and is this part of a tillers job? thanks mate and again lovely work this is what I dream about doing one day!!!!!

The floor boards had to be ripped up for me to ply the floor, how ever the external wall plates were rotten which had started to eat away at the bottom of the joists. Once I had replaced the few joists I noticed the levels were miles out so just bit the bullet and replaced the whole lot.

It took about 5 nights and one weekend to do it all, the old floor was pretty solid with no deflection because of the sleeper walls every 1000mm but now with noggins every 500/600mm and joist spacing of 400mm the whole floor is rock solid.

I have spent a fortune on the house over the past few years so I thought I may aswell do it all now then later when things get worse. I had to do all the hall way too as that was rotten pretty bad too. When its all done and dusted I know that I can be safe in knowing its all good for another 25years all I have to do is paint/decorate every few years!

I've put a before/after shot up to and a rotten wall plate picture.
