looking after the kids

ive been looking after my son (hes six) during the school hols.

the other day he was riding his bike up and down the drive, and i remembered something we used to do when we were kids .

i got a playing card and a peg and peged it onto the back of the bike with the playing card going through the spokes so when the wheels go round it sounds like an engine.

cant get him off his bike now and at the last count he had 3 cards on there (must of been a turbo)

so there you go forget spending a fortune to entertain the kids a peg and a pack of cards is all you need

my two just learned to ride their bikes (without stabilisers) last week Andy, I remember doing the same with pegs and card when we were younger

and when they have got fed up with riding their bikes you can teach them poker and fleece them of their pocket money:lol:

Andy, last year I showed the same thing to my son, and he was

1. amazed at how cool it was to ride a bike and make that sound (none of the kids do it now)

2. amazed that his father was young once and rode a bike with a card in the spokes and making noise:smilewinkgrin:

I was desperate for a motorbike when I was young and I could pretend I was riding one

:yikes: b-fly, I think you should learn. round where I live, the council/whoever have been funding free cycling lessons. have a look around your local area and see what is available.

This will be great. I have to check this. I tried to learn when I was at 14 but the bike was very old and it was a bike my grandfather used to ride so... I was very embarrassed acctually.

I used to use a plastic drinks carton and force it in the frame near the brakes, used to give the same effect but used to burn out quickly if you rode quick, so we'd need an "engine" replacement and would have to go back the shop with 10p for another drink.

Fantastic! It's great to know that kids imagination is still running riot, I used to do this too with cheap playing cards, the firmer the better, 'cos it made the noise louder for longer.

It will be great once you learn you'll understand .... I cannot describe it with words. For me it keeps the stress away

i did the same as a kid but modern tech has replaced the old plastic thingy you can buy a handle that fits over the existing handle and you re it like you would on a bike hes had it since he got the bike ( cost him 3 dummies )

I have also started taking him to the speedway again as Cradley Heatherns are back up and running

took him this week and i gave the announcer a note saying it was my kids 6 th birthday on sunday and he read it out and the whole crowd sang him happy birthday special night And we ommered em
