tiler robbo

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum so guess first thing to do is say hi, I'm Robbo from Kent.

Recently tiled my own bathroom & kitchen as well as my mum’s a little while back. Had fun doing it, eager to do more & am bored of the 9-5 office job I've been doing for the last 11 years!

So, how do I go about setting up my own business as a self employed tiler? Is it best to start as a tilers mate to learn the ropes? Can you just start up or do you require specific NVQ qualifications etc... to trade?

I've done a little research online, obviously found this forum & came across some great looking training courses. Problem I have is taking 4-6 weeks out of my current job is not feasible unless I leave, then there's no money coming in. Will I get much out of say a 5 day course, or at least enough to give me the confidence & knowledge to take on a customer project? I'm happy to do as much training as needed to better myself as at present my skills are limited & I'm a firm believer you never stop learning but the courses are expensive & will add up, if I can do them over a period of time alongside working would help me out no end.

I have the drive & determination to succeed & understand you get out what you put in. Any input or advice at this stage would be much appreciated. Cheers, Robbo

Hi Robbo , welcome to the forum, you will get plenty good advice here . times are hard in the building trade and there are plenty tilers out there and competition is fierce so think very carefully about packing your job in, much better to start off part time and see how it goes , good luck ..
