I've recently had a shower cubicle tiled, by a bit of a jack of all trades builder, and am already concerned it's at risk of leaking. The tiles have yet to be grouted and it appears that the adhesive has only been dabbed on, resulting in voids at the corners where you can see all the way back to the backing board.

The tiles are ceramic and measure 300 x 100 x 7mm deep. Can anyone let me know if my fears are founded, or whether there is any remedial action that can be taken, such as trying to force in more adhesive into the grout lines and then either side to fill the void behind the tile?

If anyone could advise I'd be grateful

Remove all of them and retile? That wasn't the news I was hoping to hear!
It was tiled some time ago now with the bagged BAL flexible adhesive which went off pretty solid and will be a swine of a job to remove. I'll try and get some photos and post them up.

You can get adhesive for less than half of that price , it didn't have to be BAL.,thats a shocking price.

Right, on closer inpection it appears the problem is largely restricted to particlar rows (which have already been replaced as they hadn't been laid level), so I can avoid the soul destroying job of removing every tile. Fortunately the offending rows have an accessible edge whcih means it shouldn't be too much hassle to get behind. I did try taking photos but with such narrow grout lines (1.5mm) the void doesn't show up.

And Pebbs, thankfully not needed to use my shower since laying the tiles. I've not had the bloke back as I don't want him inflicting any more potential damage to my home. I've found out (the painful way) it's best to spend the money on professional specialist services in the first place.

Thanks to everyone for your input,

Davo
