I know it's all dependent on tile size etc but what sort of area would you expect to be covering in an average day for walls/floors
This is a very open ended question with many variables, everyone works at a different pace which suits their level of skill/experience, 15/20 walls and 20/25 floors is very acheivable when in full flow, provided no cutting in the way to slow things down or tiles are not mosaic lol...........gaz

you can rip through a bathroom wall with say 40 * 25 tiles in no time then it takes same amount of time again to put cuts in and trims etc, so to test your speed in putting up full tiles is pointless. measure up a full wall and see how long it takes you to tile the whole thing including cuts, then do the same on different size walls with different scenarios such as external corners with trims etc.... it might help you build up a picture of how quickly you can tile.....

the amount you tile is irrelevent.........how much you want/need to earn is another matter......be professional, work clean, keep your tools in good working order and speed will come to you......as to your question i can tile
(in heaven...tiling in heaven is rare) 20m2 per day with cuts (dont like to leave cuts out).

in most situations thier are obstacles to overcome....which take time.....speed and m2 is not the answer..customer satisfaction and the knowledge of the fact that you did the job properly is what will keep you in this trade.....i know an architect that after knowing me several years (of faultless work) still checks my floors and walls with a digital spirit level........thats not the worst thing the problem is he checks my work with my digital stabilia......mmmmmm

I agree with the comments above. The most important thing is to do a good job and the speed comes.
I can do an average kitchen splashback in a day, full bathroom in 3-4 days ( i think im slow) yet i can do 30m plus of flat floor in a day.
Organise your tools, time and day to suit each job and i find one of the most important thing is liasing with clients for dates for a few weeks before a job.

I suppose what I'm getting at is this,
if i took 2 days to tile a bathroom this week and charged £300, then a year later I tile an identical bathroom but it only takes me a day, should I still be charging £300? its more than some people in a day job will earn in a week and you're taking it for a days work
unless you use rapidsetwhich is more expensive than dispersion, but you can grout the same day with rapidset, then you wont be able to do a toilet in a day, dont have any hang ups about taking your money if you dom the job quicker. If you are thinking this way then you should price the job per m2 and not day rate. You need to get a business head on and control your money so as to account for quiet periods i.e Jan?feb

Dont charge unrealistically......
you will be out of work...the dole cue is long...
if you can do a job in a day charge a days rate, if you run over....you only have yourself to blame and therfore should take it on the chin......
(be accurate on pricing)
on the upside if you do as i say and do it right..you get repeat work, and that is how you become sucessful.......p.s where is that ferrari dealership.........

On domestic work a m2 dos'nt come onto it, there's load's of consideration's to take into account, access to work area, sheeting up, lumbering your tool's into the job and cleaning up at the end of a day and the amount of excess cutting in a small room, believe me that's where the time is taken. Work to your own circumstances.

whitebeam, i agree.....if i had a (1m2) toilet to tile, and the customer wanted underfloor heating and the floor was not level....then

day 1
a= screed floor in fibreplan (skim 3mm ish drying time = 2 hours)
b= lay underfloor heating mat (1 hr)
c= screed over underfloor heating mat with fibreplan again until level (1hr)
d= go home..........4 hrs work 1 days pay.....
day 2 lay 1m2 of tiles with cuts......easy = 2 days money.....knowing the products

this job i would price @2 days day rate... i am not going to charge 1 days day rate for prep an then 1m2 rate for tiling.....i would lose out.....
