Marble mitres

Hello out there. I have to mitre 90 no. 400 mm sq 10 mm carrara marble tiles on one long edge to form external corners ( Yes I know its a silly idea but I have got to so.....) My Dewalt DW24000 tipped over to 45 degree cuts as well as ever except when I get to the end of the cut the falling piece is breaking of and taking some of the tile i want with it. The blade is newish and cutting well. I have tried a few things such as plunging into the end of the cut first ( it still snaps out when the two cuts meet) and cuttiing on top of another tile to provide better support,same problem occurs but a little less so . I would be grateful if anyone who has encountered and overcome this problem could give me an idea how they did it .Any other suggestions or thoughts would be very welcome.

have you tried using an off cut to cut into at the end of your tile?

Are you cutting the mitre at the edge of tile or are you cutting the tile to size and mitring at the same time. When I mitre, I always cut the tile to size first, then I cut the mitre....

Hello and welcome.

You should always keep the mitre back from the face edge of the tile to avoid break out and to leave a better finish.

Hello Stewart, thanlks , I have tried both with the same result! Unfortunately your thread has come up short at then I cut the mitre....!

Only other thing is do you have plenty of water coming through to the blade. I know a lot of tilers (myself included) like to turn the flow down to avoid mess. Higher water flow can help reduce vibration and give a smoother cut, though I'm not sure if it's adjustable on the dw24000?

how about trying to cut it say 10mm bigger, then re-cutting to right size so that there's not as much weight breaking the corner off?

Are you trying to do the full mitre in one pass, try taking the meat off first as well as working from both ends, but take the meat off first then trim to needs.

Its carrara CD and not too bad at all.It is just finding a weakness and parting company.

Try wrapping the edge with masking tape and then cutting the mitre.

Are you cutting through the face of the tile as well.?

You could set a jig up and turn the tile or try lowering the blade a bit then trying a pass.

Ideally a better quality bridge cutter would do your job better, my sigma 10m would even cut them with ease.
I'v been cutting 20mm and 30mm Crema marfil since last week.
