measuring for meterage

hi all
do you people have a rule of thumb way when measuring up,got caught out a bit and was a box of tiles short on a job,
do you add a percentage to the overall measurements or sit down and plan out where cuts are going to go ,wastage ect
any tips be great

If I know the size of the tile, then I measure up to the next full tile. So if the wall is 1.6 metres x 2.2 metres and the tile is 0.6 metres, then I measure the wall at 1.8 x 2.4. Or as a general rule, add 10%. I also never deduct tiles for windows and doors....

Same as Stewart here, no deductions plus 10% and 15% for stone.

Yeah, Im the same as the guys above, I round all measurements up slightly, dont deduct for windows and doors and then I just round the total area up slightly at the end, or if the customer is supplying the tiles I give them the total area and tell then to order in 10-15% on top. Seems to work ok pretty well

10% extra, bit more on large format, don't take out windows, and round up the m2

yea i normally add 10 per cent, dont deduct windows ect must have just been the way it worked with setting out
central to basin /window ect i suppose when you loose 100mm on a cut and you cant use it ,it soon adds up
