I walked in to a job the other day 6m2 of 100 x 100 tiles splash back.

THe kitchen fitters had been in the day before and absolutely everything was out. The worktop went down hill on all side of the room and had a difference of roughly 8mm between one end and the other on one side and about 6mm on the other. . However the wall units all remained level.

The second issue was that the window was hugely out. I am not the most experienced but this was the worst I have seen so far. if I tiled it normally at one end then I would have had to pack the other end up by almost 3 inches in places at the other end. and both side reveals went outwards the top of the window was probably 40mm wider than the bottom.

The painters also randomly decided to give the plastererd wall a whitewash for no reason as it was always being tiled.

So I am asking if this was a job you would price yourself out of, or what really? Do you tell the customer to call the kitchen fitters back in and level the worktop so its with in a decent silicon bead.

And get him to get that window replastered or what?

I am not sure what to do about this one and I have OCD so I like straight lines and feel somewhat uncomfortable tiling down hill....:mad2::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

if its as bad as you say yes get the fitters back and meet them there to show them the problem a new kitchen should never be that far out of level

If the customer is happy with the job the painters and kitchen fitters have done so far then stick your tiles on upside down, back to front and dont line anything up, I am sure he will not notice.

On a serious note I would point it all out and get the cowboys back before proceeding.

You need to explain it to the customer as its your work that will show all this up!

I used to tile for a plumber who never used a level on anything, i used to price in for adjusting the baths.

All the stuff i do now is on my own bathroom and kitchen fitting so dont tend to get these problems.

You could offer to price for putting it right? You can run a scraper through the Silicon and adjust the legs up one end and down the other to get the units level. There should be enough leeway on the fixings to raise and lower the units. Dot and dab a new window cill to level it up??

Get it right from the off and that will also help with your speed :hurray:
