mosaic tiling to swimming pool

Hi,

Tiling swimming pool tomorrow and the client has quite rightly stated that they want no visible sheet lines so im adamant that we should stagger the sheets to best hide any variances and my partners adamant that we don't need to and should just keep laying in uniform runs.


I've laid plenty of mosaic in my time but not over a long span so it kinda makes sense to me to stagger them, although I could be wrong.

Anyone have any feedback for us?

I have always cut mosaic sheets in half and laid them half bond, I've never tiled a pool though. Hopefully DPF Dave will see this thread and give you the advice you need.

Are they paper faced or mesh.....

I would have thought they were mesh with been in the wet environment but am unsure until I go to site tomorrow. Its the first pool I've tiled, all i know at the min is its an 80m pool in mosaics, mapai adhesive and mapei grout (114) which is a bonus because i just assumed it was an epoxy grout and it turns out.... its not.... happy happy happy

What concerns me is you don't know what paper faced mosaics are, perhaps contacting an experianced pool tiler would help....

hold on, if the guy is an experienced tiler then tiling a swimming pool should not be that much of a problem. a bit of research will do it,,, its not rocket science,

i always stagger sheets when doing mosaics. Dont forget keep wetting the paper

no problem but would be safer with someone that has done one before.

would you fly a jumbo for the first time without some assistance, when you are only experienced with microlights

i dont care how much exp you have in tiling ,a mosaic swimming pool is hard work , and getting it looking with no visable signs of sheets is not easy, im warning you dont rush into this , you might end up with egg on your face

It doesnt matter if you stagger sheets or not,I dont myself, but however you do it you have to be careful not to have sheets visable. Every now and then remember to stand well back from the area your working on and anything amiss will stand out, as your working so close to the material its hard to see whats in front of you. Always use a laser level to keep it all level, but also if you rest your cheek on the wall and look along the rows you'll spot any kinks. I also look up and down the columns double checking especially when opening up sheets.

Oh dear. Wouldnt be a bad idea to get someone to help out who's worked with them before, even if its for the first day or so.
What adhesive will you be using?

exactly, some tilers seem to think otherwise though - get lazer out ping a few lines, bish bash bosh... easy!
