Mosaic walls and floor

G

Gentleman Jim

Afternoon all,
I've got a customer who has chopped and changed his mind on tiles but seems to have settled on Premium Stone Collection 25mm mosaics from Topps. The walls total 16.4 metres and go up to meet a fairly steeply sloping roof (does this work ok when using these small mosaic tiles?) and there is a relatively small floor area of 3 metres to do. The tiles are going to cost him about £2200 and my question is what do you chaps think is a reasonable estimate?
Before his change of mind he was having 25 x 30 ceramics and I quoted £410 for fitting only (just the walls as he hadn't chosen floor tiles at that time). Now he's switched I need to change this amount to allow for all the wet cutting and additional time to seal, clean and grout.
so what do you all think?
Thanks for your advice,
Regards
Jim

Depends on how sound and flat the walls are.

If it was on perfectly flat walls then maybe £500 for the walls labour only.

16.4m2 of 25mm mosaic is an awful lot of grout line!! I would be looking for considerably more than your original quote.

That's exactely what I was thinking but I don't know how the customer will take it seeing an estimate almost double!! Still I'm not a charity....!

He can always opt for the less fiddly less costly fixing option of the original tiles!

I have to agree with Gaz regards price, or at least 50% more than your original £25/m2.

£40 per sqm for me too.
There is a helluva lot more work in fixing those compared to standard ceramic.
Just explain to the customer the differences between fixing both. If he is spending over 2K on the tiles, he's going to want them fixed right.

As Fekin mentioned, double check the condition of the walls. You want them as good as possible before you even think about starting.
Again, if they need sorting, suggest plasterboarding the whole room.
That way the walls will be spot on, and the customer will get he finish he is no doubt expecting.

Thanks chaps. It's reassuring that you're all saying around the same as me, I can't be doing it all wrong!!
The walls are fine, a new extension and I managed to get to see it before the plasterer skimmed the walls so I'll be working on new, naked plasterboard.
Thanks again for your advice.
Jim

I'de say £50m2 including materials, If the walls are all over the place the joints on the mosaic start to wander.
