Mother Of Pearl

I've got a job coming up, it's wet room and they've got mother of pearl mosaic for the wet room tray, and 10 or 12mm marble everywhere else. These mosaics are literally wafer thin, 1 or 2mm. Anyone had to do similar?

What type of tray is it? If it's foam core then those aren't suitable. Too much point load pressure. Plus they're delicate.

most pre-formed trays cant have small mosaics on as mentioned above but theres one or two makes than can, cant remember the makes off hand. I would check theyre suitable for floors though.
I would use a 3mm trowel cut down to about 2mm, apply the adhesive then run a straight edge over it so you get 100% coverage so the tesserae are completely supported.

The supplier has checked on the tiles and they are suitable apparently. I'm not sure on the make of the tray it's self but I know they are made of a blue plastic type material.

If it's blue plastic it's likely to be a tuff form tray. Small mosaic are fine on there if it is that tray.

Id use an two part or epoxy adhesive if its the ones made of compressed GRP or any other plastic/fibreglass. PCI Collastic would be good.

Could be a Kaskade tray from STS if it's like a blue plastic, if you're based in Leeds

What about troweling the adhesive thin so very little adhesive creeping through the joints.

The thing I'm gonna struggle with is the thickness, it's about 1mm and got to meet up with some stone which will be about 16mm !

Using mother of pearl mosaic can be a nightmare especally the cheap ebay cr@p. I recently fitted mother of pearl mosaics but they were from Marshalls tiles and were great to fit. 8mm thick and every 300mm2 sheet was perfect. £20 a sheet but you get what you pay for.
