When you do your course they should explain all of this to you. Who are you doing your course with? Regarding tools go to www.tradetiler.co.uk a sponsor of the forum and speak to Dave regarding tools, he will tell you what you need and wont rip you off on prices.

Also Manwell....your'e account needs activating..you should have ana ctivation email which will confirm your email adrress and link bck to the forum confirming and activating your account so you can post on the main forums..if you still have troublw come back to this thread and i will re-send activation codes for you..

As above, depending on the coarse you take. If it is a good coarse they should point you in the right direction. Good luck:welcome:

Good luck with with it all Manwell. If I could give you a little advise it would be to do the course before you spend a penny on tools. reason being is if you find it's not for you then you wont of wasted money.

you wont need any tools on the course and if your asked to bring some then the training center is not very good IMO.

I would invest in either some knee pads or some trousers with knee pad inserts(like I use). After a few days on floors wirhout you will know why!

Nice one cheers everyone.

Iv got an appointment on the 5th of jan with an advisor who is going to be doing me a business plan thats what i need all the info for. Iv done tiling before but just dont no where to start on getting info together regarding a business plan.

hi manwell

welcome to the forum

and welcome to the world of tiling

businesslink at your local chamber of commerce runs free courses on all aspects of business including your business plan

they also give free advice if you need the info sooner

your bank will also help by giving you templates and info to help fill it out

the best advice i can give anyone going into this game is to work clean and near enough aint good enough

your clients wont mind you taking time over the job , providing you have it on a price not daywork, if they can see a nice job being done

and with experiance your speeds will improve

if you get a good reputation from day one you can demand and get paid enough to cover the time taken

in fact they expect to pay for a good job and want nothing less

i wont advise you on fixing as your going on a course

spend time on here and dont be afraid to ask, we all learnt

good luck mate

iv been tiling for bout 3 months now am confident i am up to gd standard work is dry at the mo with my employer as im second priority to 1 other guy so i decided to get my own tools an try by myself i am going on start up buisness course soon but for the meantime lack sum knowledge of pricing i no 25 a sqr mtre is average but was asked the question do i charge more for slate an how much or how much to strip old tiles also wen shud i use set price any feedbk wud be great thnks

meterage isnt a bad way to price, but in my oppinion 5mtrs on a open flat wall is ok but doing a box section can take you A LOT longer so you will miss out on time, try to calculate it on how long it will take you, some jobs you will gain on and some you will lose on but it will work itself out. i have found that there tends to be a price war on meterage and its getting dragged down by some tilers fighting for the work. a fixed price worked out on time can work much better.
