Need to re-colour grout.

Hi everyone,
I have a job coming up in which I'm going to have to re-colour the grout, what is the best acid to use for cleaning the old grout prior to re-colouring? Any tips on how to do this job will be gratefully received.

I think he has to re-grout which means taking old grout out by hand.Only did this once when i first started never again,It takes forever and the machines they advetise for re-grouting dont work(ive been told).UNLESS YOU HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THEN RUN A MILE.

the best way when re-colouring is rake out the top few millimetres of the old grout , wash walls down with clean water to remove any powdery residue and then regrout.. its time consuming so price accordingly...

the aquamix grout colourant is applied over the top of existing grout and is simular to epoxy so it grips to existing grout and it avaliable in many colours and is 100% waterproof

Hi mate, Ive not long re grouted a bathroom for a customer and i found after various methods that the easiest way is to get the old grout out using a 'dremel' with the small green cone shaped attachment, I tried the 'grout remover' bit but theyre a bit sharp and chip the glaze off the tile edges.
Once youve whizzed the grout out, give it a wash down and youre ready for new grout without worrying about the old stuff grinning through.
get a really good mask and glasses/goggles though coz its a dusty horrible job and does take a while so like dhceramics said make sure you price accordingly.

Phosphoric acid. Then aquamix grout colourant. Dead easy, no messy dust
