networking groups

ok guys,i hope you are all well,got a question and looking for advice,so please feel free to comment.I am thinking about joining a networking group in order to generate more work for myself..question is are/have any of you a member of one of these groups and if so what are the costs and pros and cons if any..thanks in advance.

I used to work for a contractor who swore by them, He tried to get me involved but the way I saw it was, he does the networking and gives me the tiling from what he has gained....why bother going into myself.

I know a couple of m8's who are in one and they swear by it. Said the tiler whose in it gets quite a bit of work from it. Not in it myself so can only go by hearsay m8.

This group requires £600 a year

I was talking to joiner he said he is in the that group he swear by it gets lots of jobs after I seen his job standard. I thought my self how can I recommend this guy to my clients.
Probably he needs to in group like that to get a job he said they all recommend each other and have breakfast meeting all trades once a month

networking group consists of plumbers ,tilers,joiners,blind fitters,floor layers,car salesmen,etc...they meet one morning a week and liase with each other with leads etc....i know it cost money but dont know how much,seriously thinking about it.

it's a scratchy back thing from what I hear. You're in a room with 25 or whatever other people who share their contacts. Some rules come with some. You HAVE to turn up, if you don't, you have to get somebody to take your place and cover you I heard was a rule at one.

I heard it works for very few. I guess it depends on who's in your group and what area you're in etc but I've not heard many people bang on about them.

I've heard more people say they have mates that swear by them but they've never been themselves and I guess they want to get others signed up for some reason, perhaps commission, perhaps to take their place long-term and still keep contacts or something, not sure.

I think what Brian c means ( could be wrong) is the breakfast club as it was known. A group of Business men and women would meet once a month and have breakfast. Each would take turns to stand up and say who they were and what they did, exchange cards and the idea was that you would use ones guys services and he used yours and recommended you etc etc.

Oh and of course there is a fee... think it was about £400 plus when I looked into it over 10 years ago.
