Hello mate and welcome to the forum.

Tub adhesive is ok for certain jobs but has lots of limitations. For example it is only suitable for ceramic tiles up to 300x300 and you can only use up to a 3mm bed. I would always use a good cement based (powder) adhesive myself. If the job is say, a kitchen splash back then there is nothing wrong with using a tub adhesive as long as the walls are flat (and it is suitable for the type of tile). Most tub adhesives dont need a bonding agent, but it should say on the tub

Cheers Rich,
so if i get a cement adhesive instead, do i bond the walls then..?
Its a finishing plaster thats on the walls, thanks.
yes you will need to for cement based adhesive. you can get the primer from the tile shop where you get your adhesive from, and as sir ramic mentioned you should think about tanking (waterproofing) the wet areas prior to tiling

Yes, if you use a cement based adhesive then you will want to prime the walls with a suitable primer (as above, NEVER PVA). Is there a tile giant near you? Have a read through the link below and see, if you pop in to a store they will sort you out with some brilliant stuff. I use a standard setting, white, powder adhesive from Mapei (from Tile giant) on walls and Mapei's Primer G.
