Discuss New Grinder in the UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

Unfortunately I need to buy a new grinder, because some theifing little scally helped himself to mine, along with my transformer & extension lead :mad2:

Was doing a job yesterday at a flat (private flats in a converted building). I had to set my grinder near the rear exit so I could do it outside.
I set it all up & did all my cuts in 1 go. Went back to the bathroom to check they were all ok, I decided to stick them all, thinking I'll be ok for a few mins. Went back to my kit probably about 10mins after and it'd gone. No-one anywhere to be seen.

Maybe I should've packed it up straight away. But knowing my luck i would've needed to get it all out again if I needed to trim my cuts. Hey ho.

So,
I'm after any recommendations?
any to definately consider?
or any to avoid?

I've had 2 Makitas before & I prob will again, they're solid/robust, easy to handle, not too heavy or bulky. I'll probably get another 1 but I also think maybe I'm ready for a change.

I've handled a Dewalt one before but thought it a bit heavy to handle...

I'm gonna have a surf online & go down to B&Q to have a fiddle with some - I don't need to actually buy 1 til Tuesday/Weds at the latest

Thanks

Diamond Pool Finishers

i have dewalt... but its 110 and i have been fancying a makita for ages, but the cordless is very dear if you buy with three batteries and box kit, but i have been using them more & more on the mosaic, and become a dab hand with one now, but you deffo need the ppe as they give-off a cloud of dust when used.

well dust mask and glasses, when i did the pool renovation last week i put a wooden board over the coping stones at the shallow end ( just the right high ) and cut every strip out of each sheet then trimmed the cut off the sheet with a knife, but it just showed me the amount of dust ,so i thought i don't want to be breathing that in !!! :yikes: its bad enough living near a steel works

They did a big promotion on Ryobi here, big discounts for first sales push, the sds drill with pick hammer function wouldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding, the laser level bottoms out at 12cm which is no good for setting out most batons unless you start 2 tiles up on most sizes we use, and the 2 grinders we got burnt out in less than a month. Got 2 Bosch grinders that are getting old but still going, also got a Makita and a Dewalt, to be honest they're all good and it doesn't bother me which one is available or closest to my hand in the van, just avoid Ryobi like the plague.

On a serious note though, thieving swines need hanging. They'll get £20 down the pub for their next fix for it. String 'em up!!!!!!

I'd go down the Makita route

Where in leeds were you working Martyn?
