Hi all.
Just started a part-time evening tiling course, I have just found this site. Just thought i would have a good read, and try and pick a few tips up. All new to me, this manual work,
A normal days work for me is sat behind a computer screen.
I hope I can pick it all up ok...
I would love to know, if anyone is willing, how much people charge. Just an idea for when I start to do work on the side.
Per hour?
Day rate?
Per square metre?
What can I expect to earn, if I was to work over a weekend.

And if I was to jack it all in and give it a go full-time?

Come on.. somebody talk pound notes to me.... http://www.tilersforums.com/images/smilies/angel_smile.gif

Hi and welcome to the forums dboden.

People charge different rates up and down the counrty, but on average for normal standard ceramic tiling your looking at anywhere between £20 to £25 per sqm.

Different tile material cuts differently, so you would charge a lot more to lay marble than you would ceramics too.

Basically, if you can cut the whole job within reason on a dry cutter, you'd probably charge less than say a tile that needed a lot of wet cutting.

On top of that, you don't always just go on sqm rates, you also go on dat rates, and they differe just as much, but on the whole their between £100 to £160'ish per day.

Example, doing a small 3sqm kitchen splashback in ceramics you wouldn't just charge £20 x 3 for the job, it would really take you a day, maybe a day and a half for grouting maybe, so you'd charge day and a half rate in this case, that sort of thing.

It all comes down to what you fixing, what sort of cuts you have to do and how long you think it's going to take you to do it.

Adding all these factors together gives you a price.

Bad idea just to do a course and jack in the day job.
Start out doing family and friends jobs while you have the day job still, then start doing propper paying customers on your days off, then see how it goes.

Some people say they can make £30,000 per year, while some do, many don't, it's all about advertising yourself as a product.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Grass isn't always greener on the other site ;)

I think if you are looking to jump into the trade due to the cash, then there are easier things to learn. Do it if you like tiling and do it for that reason only and you'll earn a few quid but you'll never be a millionaire, as they say.
