Hello everybody!
Iv only just gained access to the arms members section so I wanted to put a post up to say hello.
I have been a tiler for about 8 years and own a small tiling firm, we have a glowing reputation I very happy to say but I was taught by a little old man in a very old fasioned way so no qualifications. I would really like to take my NVQ as I think you should never stop learning and improving, BUT I want to know if you guys think it is worth the time and the money?
Any thoughts?

Thanks for letting me in.
I havnt worked on any new builds for a while. For the first 5 years or so I only worked sites but a lot of the buildering companies went under so I had to make a swift move over to the private sector. So at the moment I do a lot of extensions, I wouldnt class that as site work cuz im used to big sites but I know people who would.

well i have just been assessed and have been given a NVQ2 and meet another assessor besides the guy who assessed me sadly i don't think they had any knowledge between them imo and you only need one in the future on site work
This is only my opinion and most do not agree with me i am sure their are plenty that do know what they are doing same as tilers imo

hi and welcome to the arms:welcome:

you dont need one

but you do need a cscs card to work on site as a tiler, im not sure you can hold one without being qualified in that trade

i will be corrected if im wrong

As of 2010 you will need a cscs card to access sites...and to hold a tradesmans card.. you need an nvq2 at least..
