Old walls

hi all, does anyone know what would be the best product to use on old painted walls in a bathroom. I will be tiling and reskimming, the walls have a good covering of thick paint circa 1950's, old lead based i think. i don't want to strip the paint if possible.
all ideas will be greatlly appreciated.

What tiles will you be fixing to the paint....

Not a good idea to tile on the paint. You could overboard it with new plasterboard, or strip the old paint. What is the substrate currently? Solid render and plaster or lathe and plaster (or other)? If its that old you may be better off starting from scratch, it may be in a poor state of repair.

I wouldn't tile over it myself, definately remove or overboard

If you have to work on top of it scrape loads of lines into it then the primer and tile adhesive has more to cling to

depending what walls are , you could mechanically fix some boards, or strip back and reboard dot and dab , imo i would,nt just scrape lines into it then prime and tile , no good as far as im concerned

I would just strip the paint and save yourself a heep of problems

Thanks for all the feedback, the walls are solid (ex council), i am new to the tiling game and thought there was some some sort of product out there that could be used to prepare the walls before plastering / tiling. Will be going for the scrape off paint option as the job is for my in-laws and money is tight.
