When I first started out I didn't think I'd get enough work straight away just tiling so I also do roof repair since one of my previous jobs was as a foreman at a roofing company. The money for a quick job is brilliant as I could say replace 5 broken tiles/slates in an hour and charge £120 for doing it,this horrible weather has been great for me.
My thinking was that plenty of people have a go at tiling cause they're ignorant and think its easy and they can do a good job(which they very rarely do) but with roofing it requires you to have balls of steel(plus a ladder:wink_smile: )so nearly everyone is willing to pay good money for a leaking roof to be fixed.
I market myself as :Eclipse Tiling .Floor-Wall-Roof.
This works really well for me.

I take it theres plenty of others that don't just do tiling so what other work do you do?eg.plastering

I have 25 years in the electrical trade, industrial ( up to 11 kV ) comercial and domestic, currently doing a learn direct C&G + 16th edition and part P from home, when I can get to sit down that is. All the new regs etc etc mean that I'll have to pull my finger out to get them ... lol, that is if I want to carry on doing 'lecky work :D

You could find this forum useful then :)

When I tiled and worked for somebody the small firm did full bathroom fits so where possible we'd carry out the small bits of plumbing work and general studded walls etc. It can be really handy to get a few related trades under your belt although I'd never have guessed ceramic and room tiling would be so advantageous. Well done lol.

I'm a tree surgeon by trade, i got fed up employing guys, insurance etc, so i started tiling two years ago, but i still do tree surgery myself and landscaping. I only pick the best jobs these days. I do a lot of conservation work creating wild flower meadows, i have specialist machinery which nobody in my area has as to expensive. so i work outside on sunny days and tile indoors when its wet during the winter and it works very well.
