overpling chipboard flooring

Hi guys have always over plyed chipboard flooring prior to tiling but what is the reason for this if chipboard was primed would it be ok.
Other theories are easier to strip flooring at a later date please enlighten md ..brum

Its been discussed a million times but if you're going to over-board with ply it should be min 15mm thick and min WBP grade to comply with BS. Why add wood to wood. I prefer to use 6mm Hardie cement board.

Tony have you ever had any problems with Ditra?
I'm doing a chipboard floor in the next couple of weeks & using Ditra as I can't fit 6mm Hardie over the top.

never, as long as floor fixed properly. And I use Ardex

I bought the Ardex AF200 adhesive to glue it to the floor.
What size notch trowel do you use for combing the Ardex to the chipboard?
I read on it as a 2x6mm notch trowel.

I've used Ditra over 2 small bathroom floors with chipboard without problems, but they were only 1m x 2m and 1m x 1.5m so nothing too large really

well can I lay tiles on primed chipboard or not please the ply fitted is generally 6mm fixed at 100 mm centres fitted to 22 mm chipboard

6mm ply not suitable, 6mm hardie glued and screwed would be my choice

Thanks for your reply pete all builders fit this to tile on .I am a plumber to trade with best part of 30 years bathroom fitting my son does our tiling I do the other stuff cheers..brum
