Is it possible to tile directly onto gloss painted floor boards?
The floor in question is in great condition with no deflection at all and the customer does not want to raise the level by boarding.

If I score up the paint well and use something like BAL BOND do you think I'll get away with it? I've never faced this one before!

Thanks in advance!

only one answer to this one mate and its a deffo "NO"....

either talk the customer into a subfloor or remove the paint, either by sanding or strip it off with a heat gun...make sure you remove all residue..

Boards must be screwed
down to the supporting joists
at 300mm centres.

Seal board surface with two

coats of BAL PRIME APD.

Allow each coat to dry.

Interesting situation. I would sand the paint offto expose clean timber. There are adhesives out there which are supposed to be suitable for use directly onto floor boards.Go with the manufacturers advice on priming, and grouting.

Coincedentally, I have just seen a DIY job wherea rubberised adhesive was used directly onto dirty unsanded boards and it appears to have stuck like the proverbial... time will tell

Hi Dave. theres that fix at 300mm centres again. I still dont know how those British Standards were come too.

It is impossible to follow those guide lines especiallyas regards fixing floorboards, as the joists are probably at 400mm centres. Seems to me that they mean 300mm in both directions. No problem fixing a second layer at 300mm centres. am i missing something:6:
