painted plasterboard

hi guys nedd some advice about tiling over painted plasterboard in a bathroom ,some say you cant others say its ok if the paint is well stuck and area is primed help!!

Depends on the paint! If it is emulsion it should be mechanically removed...without damaging the plasterboard paper surface!!

think it is emulsion do you think it would be easier to replace the plaster boards, what would you use to remove the paint think i read somewhere that you could use cheap tile ady doing the quote later this evening want to have a plan in place ready

personally i would never tile over any form of paint as the adhesive tends to bubble the paint and loosens it but you cant see it happening. if the job allows replace the boards and prime them. if the customer is not happy with that screed a small area with the adhesive leave for an hour or so then scrape it off i would be very suprised if the adhesive does not remove the paint very easily. by the way which adhesive are you planning to use?:sunny:

ok so are you planning to use the cheap addy for the removal of the paint? if so i would way up the time scale of removing the paint and the cost of the addy as to the cost of replacing the boards and price accordingly. but for me i would rather replace so that you can be as sure as you can that there will be no problems after. best to explain this to the customer in the end its your reputation thats being looked at if things go wrong because of the customers wishes. hope this helps.

I agree with what CJ si saying here, except that with white star on new board you won't need to prime.
