Was walking around (ok staggering) around Brighton last night and came across this in a Gallery window. At quick glance it reminded me of our very own Mosaic Girls 'Wave Of Creation' piece so had to take a closer look.

I do really like it so had a quick chat with the gallery to find out a bit more but sadly the owner wasn't in that night so the only thing they could tell me was the price. As I say it's very nice and very detailed, I just think it's been let down by the grouting which is a bit rough in places. I wasn't surprised by the price but for £5k i'd expect it to be a little more polished to be honest.

EDIT: To give you an idea of size it's about 1.2m x 1.9m

Nice piece though so thought i'd share

Here's Mosaic Girls piece if you haven't seen it before

Thanks for the mention, Rob :) It is a very clever piece, 5 grand, oh I can understand that, lots and lots of cutting there and the 3D effect with the legs, etc.. wonder what the substrate is? Shame about the messy grouting I can't see from here, but if I had done that, looking at it, I'd be proud. ALSO come to think of it, depending on what commission the gallery charges, the artist may well end up with much much less. Hard to tell from the pic, how big is it, roughly? 130 -140cm high?

I'd did go back and edit the post but size was it's 1.28m x 1.86m (Another wierd detail my drunken memory logged)

I asked if price was negotiable and the girl said "We currently have 30% off in our store sale so it's already discounted" I somehow doubt 30% was knocked off this myself. Not sure what the commission would be, this isn't one of the well known galleries but I suppose could be anywhere from 10-30%??

The grouting was mainly messy round the edges, I understand as an artistic piece the artist may well have wanted it like that but for me it let it down a little. As I say very nice but just saddened me the last bit could have been better.

I think it was on some sort of board (around 10mm thick) but hard to tell as the back was painted.

I'll find out the artists name next time i'm in The Lanes and let you know ;)

Talking of 'Attention To Detail' i've just been looking at some other pictures from last night.

Detail doesn't always have to be pretty, it can be functional and as I say I'd had a few last night and I quitely thanked the person that had taken the time to think about what people really want...

This little detail saved me from ending up on the floor in a puddle of **** ;)

Probably MDF then... the edge, again to be fair to the artis may have been left messy as it maybe was originally intended to be recessed into a wall somewhere. Galleries usually charge anything between 30% and 60%, 2 out of three galleries up here who have some of my rock mosaics charges 30% and 40% respectively, which means I really have to add 42% to the price I roughly want, for them to end up with their 30% off the total, it really pushes things up something chronic and is very very irritating... But thanks, I would be interested who the artist is.
