Was in my tile shop the other day chatting to the owner and discussing ply - backerboards etc.

Anyway he showed me something called pecilastic and said its as good as ply or backer board , you just spread your add on and lay this on top and it strenghtens like ply.

Now call me sceptical or what but this stuff is less than a mill thick, its like paper.

He said hes used it before as he didnt beliueve it would work so he used it on his own bathroom t+g flooring and said it worked like a dream

Hes gonna let me do one of his displays with the stuff next time they're changing so I can have a go.

Has anyone used it and if so is it really that good??

a bit expensive imo at £14 a MT2 but if raising the floor level is an issue then it could be good. I had a wheelchair user wanting floor tiles to be laid now this could be ideal.

hi col mate...........i wouldn't say that about it...... ....If you pm Pete ( pjc) he uses it alot and will tell you all about it........

Hi Dave mate.

I was unsure about it, but im willing to give it a go. Wold be interesting to see it like. I just cant see how it would strengthen the floor. Incidently the guy who mnanages the shop used to be a tiler.

I have to admit that soimetimes it would help on floor levels like

As far as i remember from what pete said about it it is a tanking and anti fracture membrane not a sub-floor strengthener......

2 ticks and i will get some literature on it for you........

here you go col...

PCI Pecilastic is a separation layer suitable for use under ceramic and natural stone tiles. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor use on all sound and cracked substrates and for use with underfloor heating systems. The PCI Pecilastic layer enables the substrate beneath to move laterally which means the tile above is protected from the detrimental affects, which sub floor movement, can cause. A solid bed can also be achieved due to the flat nature of the membrane eliminating the problems associated with point loading as long as the appropriate tile is selected.

Ah,

So the floor would still need strengthening first then.

SO then really its to be used in the same way as Ditra matting etc.

Mind I could have a use for it on a half concrete half wood floor like.

Cheers for that Dave, as always you never cease to amaze.

Hi gate it not to be used instead of ply but its great on large timber floors that are solid inc chipboard its a decoupling matting can be used as you said over cracks and between different substrates i just done a large floor witch was a metal computer floor`concrete chipboard and plywood done a treat 800 mts plus it can be a lot cheaper than using say fastflex on chipboard and using cement based adhesives on larger floor can cause the adhesive to shear because of the sideways movement which is why i use it most of the time its also less than 1mm thick unlike ditra and you don't have any voids to fill time and adhesive pm me if you want any further info it comes in 50 mtr rolls and that sounds like a little expensive but not sure of the retail price 😛ete
