Ply lining floors

Morning All,

I've got a job on doing an upstairs bathroom and the customer would like to floor tiling once the walls have finished.

I've noticed that the floor is chipboard and will need ply lining before i can tile it, i've never done this before and would like to know what you guys would charge for this?

Depends on the floor size really.

Could be an hours job, could be half a day or more, whats the sqm area to be overboarded.

I use cement backerboards anyway

its a 4 and 1/2 sq metres, i would of been alot bigger but the guy has bought this huge shower tray, i'm surprised you can get in the room to be honest.

Lining a floor is very easy, but can be time consuming screwing all the screws into it.

Personally if Im tiling a floor and Im getting a good price for doing so then I have already taken the factor of boarding it out in the price, maybe add on a couple of hours or whatever, or just do it as part and parcle of fitting the floor.

Something like Hardie backer board ( 6mm ) would be ideal for a shower room floor......

Aye and for a small floor then just screwing it down does the job, or if the floors quite big then lay them in a bed of adhesive then screwdown.

I personally would use addy anyway even on a small floor with 6mm Hardie, it is not the flattest stuff around and last thing you want underneath are voids.

Always found they we're solid and flat with the amount of screws I put into them.

I agree with grumps....i use addy underneath all the time however small the floor.....

Bal recommend 18mm ply on floors.I sometimes use PVA as an adhesive then screw together with 40mm screws at 150mm centres.When pva sets nothing will split floor.

Why would you need to use pva under 18mm ply for glueing, With the amount of fixing being used would be sufficient.

Belt and braces.
My Da used to use F44 vinyl addy under ply for the same reason.

for the sake of putting a 6mm bed of addy down under the backer baord your better doing it that way, belt n braces n all that.

Cost you next to nowt and takes hardly any extra time either really.

Screw as normal and your covered all round eh.
