ply or ardex 7001?

with en suites & small bathrooms with 18mm thick floor boards sheets and an area of not more than 3 sqm is it easier to just use ardex 7001 rather than use backer boards. Providing the floor is rigid with no deflection. im tiling a couple of small floors if I use no more ply it will cost the customer more money and me a lot more time. 7001 is made for that reason surely? I mean if you look at the service requirments say in a kitchen then ply out. But an ensuite? couple of oaps.

I personally would go with it, just make sure the floor is solid and you prime as per Ardex spec.

you mean tongue a grove boards?
i did a similar job this week. i screwed the floor boards down and added noggins to dodgy bits. i then skimmed addy over, stuck hardibacker down and taped the joints and stuck in a few screws. i then used Mapei keraquick with latex.
overkill lol? i'll sleep well at night tho!


the floor boards were very stiff when i had screwd them down and added noggins. i couldnt help but think perhaps i should of used ditra?

Jesus id sleep for week P' boro. I think if the floor was 5+ sqm id board out or if big family. im sure i read somewhere that granfix make a 1 part fast flexy that they clain can go directly on to floor boards regardless. dont know bout that. cheers lads

Have used 7001 many times in similar circumstance, you'll be fine as long as there is no deflection in existing flooring.
