preference of surfaces to tile on

Taking into account weight ratios etc which surface do you prefer to tile onto and why.
plasterboard,hardibacker,plasterered etc.

Marmox if fitted properly or hardibacker, flat render is great, but it rarely is!

render first choice ,then either wedi,marmox, the schluter kerdi board is really good and very easy to fit ,went on a training day at schluter and have to say I was very impressed and will try and get it specified on one of my jobs so I can see how it performs on site

Render is great if it's nice and flat, pity the way so many plasterers can't keep it flat at the bottom.

Tiles are never letting go of it once they're up.

A well rendered wall is the best, but as we all no very render is quite rare these days and the flat stuff is even rarer.
Loving Marmox boards, great invention, makes to realise just how rubbish plaster board is in showers etc.

Usually either render or plasterboard if im prepping myself so i prefer those

I generally do all of our own prep nowadays and so use whatever is suitable for area. Any of the backgrounds is fine if suitable adhesives are used. Plasterboard has speed of fitting on its side if dot and dabbing but not suited for wet areas, hardie backers are good in wet areas but more expensive and render is great but has long drying times. Not much of an answer that - sorry!
