prep travertine

Hi all, just about to lay trav onto a concrete floor in conservatory. Is there any prep needed or just straight in. ? also is it true that some 6mm floor tiles will crack if laid on top of ditramatt ?

Hi groucho mate...i would prime the floor first...also check how flat the floor is as well......dita mat is an uncoupling and crack isolation membrane so i dowt it very much ....make sure the tiles have a solid adhesive bed then no probs...if you are going to use ditra then only use normal set adhesive on top of the ditra and never flexi......dave..

If you did not prime the floor what probs could occur? The floor is very dusty so I presume it would help that

Also what happens if you use flexi on top of ditra?

hi groucho if u dont prime the floor ur adhesive will dry quicker once u spread
it on the floor also useing the correct primer gives it a better key to the floor
so ur not just sticking to dust also u can use flexi adhesive on ditra matting
but u are just wasting ur money if u are fixing ceramic tiles but if u are fixing
porcelain tiles on to ditra it needs to have porcel bond in the adhesive or use
flexi adhesive u need to use what adhesive suits the tile not the ditra

First of all the primer helps create a good surface for the adhesive to bond to especially if it was a dusty one and stops the floor sucking the moisture from the adhesive to quickly.........as regards to the ditra then read this as well...[DLMURL]http://www.schluter.com/p/content/FHB.pdf[/DLMURL]

Thanks lads great help. I make my mix a touch loose to give me more time while I pounce about double checking lines. I cant believe the sqm's people knock out. Im still on about 8 a day. I'll keep plugging away though. the way to get speed is to be thorough with the basics. Or thats what I keep telling myself.
