Preparation for tiling over concrete

I have about 360 sq. ft. to tile in a basement, and I was wondering if I should etch it or what to do to prep. I have tiled concrete before with no special prep, but this is a basement finishing job for a customer and I don't want to take any chances. Also, there are control joints cut, so do I have to use a membrane there? There doesn't appear to have been any lateral movement in the concrete.

Hi and welcome....is the concrete troweled smooth or a stipply type of finish.

Thanks for the replies. The concrete is troweled smooth.

Also, in the bathroom the owner wants an electric radiant heat mat. Anyone have a particular brand they like? I have research quite a few, but I was hoping to get some advice from someone that has some experience with them.
