I was telling some of you about a couple of nice jobs i priced ie a flight of marble stairs curved which i have to nose etc by hand.lol.well i got that job.ill do it this month maybe.also a big house with - 125yd2 20mm marble to lay and 150yd2 of bathrooms and ensuites.i priced this job really well i thought but today i get call from the customer.he told me he i have been beaten on price! Ok i say.how much? He says a guy will do it for €3800 cash.now when you convert that to sterling it works out about £3340 ! What you all think of that? The job is in the south of Ireland.i have walked from it.

Even by NI prices, that's still a shocking price for stone. Is there still decent prices in the south or is it well and truely dried up now?
sure is too low even for our prices wingn.i know i have 2 other jobs in the south at the minute and no probs with rates there.but overall it looks bad all round the border area and even down to dublin.problem is that all trades have dropped their prices so we are expected to follow! Im holding tight.

Maybe the customer is trying it on Joe. I've dropped my prices for the Winter, but I'm still being undercut. You have a JOTM under your belt, surely that would earn you a couple of extra Euro. Good luck. Sean

Joe ,what can i say m8...really cheap is an understatement. Its frustrating when you here this as you like everyone would have expected to get the job especially if you felt as if you gave a good price. If i was you i would go over the job with a fine tooth comb and ask the customer if the other 'tiler' is going to do exactly the same as you whether it be using a certain product or slc anything that might give you the edge and of course show them your brilliant work m8...its worth a try...have they seen the other tilers work?i bet its not in the same league as your bud?

Wow. That's either a good tiler pricing himself to death, or it's a bad tiler not knowing what he's taking on. Either way, it's a shame to think the customer will probably get a poor looking floor and perhaps problems down the line too. That floor should be down for life if don't correctly, though I can't see that happening at that sort of rate.

What a shame mate. Chin up and carry on though as they say.
