I made an absolute charlie of myself last night pricing a job up for a customer. It was for tiling the area between units and worktops in a kitchen. He told me he had measured it up and it came to 13 sq m. I broke it down as normal and worked out my measurements. I then added up the total on paper as it is normally quicker than using a calculator. I got an answer of 17sq m and priced it at 490. He looked pretty shell shocked but didn't say anything.
For the rest of the night something was niggling at me that I had done something wrong with the price. I rechecked my figures and found I had put a decimal point in the wrong place. The are was only 6 sq m.
It was really embarrasin phoning him back this morning to explain. I priced at 180 and he took me up on it straight away. Very unprofessional but thankfully I got away with it
